About
Orlando Gili (b.1984, Britain) is an award-winning portrait and documentary photographer, capturing a world of colour and personality to counteract the dull, grey mundaneness of the everyday. Gili’s photographs are characterised by bold colours with an uncomplicated realistic aesthetic, with a playful intimate feel.
The majority of Orlando’s work involves creating portraits or human driven photo-stories, working with magazines and newspapers, advertising and design agencies, as well as charities. Gili’s pictures have featured in FT Weekend, The Guardian, The Telegraph, CNN and Vice. The photographer is well versed in shooting a huge variety of people, sometimes in a very short space of time, whether politician or parmesan cheese maker. Underpinning his process, is a belief in the universalities of the human experience. Inspired by Tony Ray-Jones his recent photo book Trivial Pursuits - The English at Play has been described as “a humane portrait of a nation not only unwinding but navigating its history and place in today’s world” (CNN). The project was a natural progression from his first photo book about football fan culture Que Sera, Sera - “I cannot think of a better book on football in the UK” (Martin Parr).
